Several students have asked me about buying books for the two classes
I'll be teaching at Grinnell next semester. In particular, I seem to
have caused some confusion with my web pages
(, which describe the books by
pointing at their descriptions on

My use of for this purpose was strictly laziness on my part;
it meant I didn't have to type in a long description of the books. My
expectation is that you will buy books through the college bookstore,
and I have already ordered the books. Cassandra Wherry, in the
bookstore, is working to try to make sure that those books in which
you've been assigned readings over the break will be available before
you head home for break.

There's no law *against* your buying the books through Amazon, but that
certainly wasn't my plan, and my understanding is that you'll probably
get better prices through the bookstore anyway.

I'm sorry for any confusion I may have caused. -- Nathaniel
